Real Passion is Scarce
Personal March 05, 2009
Sometimes I just want to forget about Silicon Valley and retreat into the hills overlooking the ocean and listen to music all day while napping in the sunlight.
I think it's a little sad that "the way life is" requires everyone to work all the time to save money to pay for living expenses. And the majority of the world continues this routine for years and years for no other reason than that's just what they have to do for the sake of their lives and the lives of their family members.
That's how the world works, I know. And I have no problem with working and making money, as long as I feel strongly about what I do. These days, too many people do things for the wrong reasons: i.e. to make money versus because there's a passion. It's terribly disheartening to someone like me who doesn't do anything for the money! I'm the guy who redesigns restaurant menus because I want to, who takes on new projects because they're an interesting challenge and who collects wine bottles because they're pretty.
(Okay, that last one wasn't as relevant.)
But seriously. The valley's got too many business people and too much venture capital and, at least to me, it's lost a lot of the passionate culture. Now it's all about making connections with the right investors and making a lot of money. (Sigh)

Why do people get freaked out if you're too attentive? I shouldn't even phrase it as "too attentive." It's really just the regular kind. If you reply to a Facebook message, return a call or respond to a text message w...

The Need For Routine
As much as I hate to admit it, I need a routine. I need structure. I want to come to work and know the plan for the day, instead of aimlessly wandering around using other people as entertainment. "You look interesting...
